It’s official, VHS Fest is coming back, but will now be a part of the huge convention known as Scare-A-Con Sept 12-15th at The Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY! SAC is expected to draw 6000-9000 guests this year (anyone there last year knows those aisles were packed every day with 5000+ guests!!) and brings in some of the biggest horror & sci-fi celebrities from around the world. VHS Fest is proud to be a permanent part of the fun now, and we will have our own special corner of VHS themed vendors and indie filmmakers.
Last year we brought in several vendors and many collectors who traded, bought, sold and shared their love of VHS. We also did something never before seen in Central NY, focusing specifically and solely on underground cinema by bringing in cult filmmakers Mark Polonia (“Splatter Farm”), Jerry O’Sullivan (“Gut Pile”) and Jeff Forsyth (“Children of the Sky”), who all met fans and signed limited edition VHS releases of their work. We also did special showings, like Ron Bonk’s “HI8” contribution “Gang Them Style” and the VHS collecting doc “Adjust Your Tracking”. This year’s event, thanks to the support from SAC, will be much bigger and better. We will have more indie filmmakers – starting with our first announced guest, legendary shot on video filmmaker “Todd Sheets”. Todd will be bringing his latest movie, “House of Forbidden Secrets” to screen at the event (side note, Lew Temple from “The Walking Dead” is already a special guest at SAC and stars in “House”). We will be scheduling more showings, including the much buzzed about “HI8” movie from producers Brad Sykes & Tim Ritter which features segments from Tim, Brad, Todd, Ron, Donald Farmer, Marcus Koch, Chris Seaver and Tony Masiello. We will again have limited edition event specific VHS releases. We will have special filmmaker and VHS themed panels. And of course we will have even more VHS vendors – we already have more sellers and collectors committed to this year’s event!
More filmmakers will be announced soon – very excited about who we have lined up, just waiting to finalize details with them – as well as additional screenings. Really, what more could you ask from an event like Scare-A-Con? Huge celebrities, tons of vendors, a Film Festival, dozens of panels, premiere screenings, awesome after hours events (meet & greets, dance parties & bonus screenings), and now VHS Fest? Doesn’t get much better than that!
